The 2nd Royal Tank Regiment is currently based in Aliwal Barracks, Tidworth. It was the second regiment in the British Army to be equipped with Challenger 2.
The Regiment is currently part 1 Mechanised Brigade.
2 RTR recruits from Somerset, Cornwall, Devon and SE England. They have had soldiers in N. Ireland, Canada and all British Army operational zones including Kosovo,Iraq and Afghanistan.
Rugby and skiing are the strongest sports in the regiment - it has held RAC trophy in both these events.
Several Olympians have emerged from the regiment - Cpl Tout (Bobsleigh), LCpl Mark Gee and Sgt Glen Scott (Biathlon) to name but a few.
